Wollongong City Council is inviting people to have their say about the proposed name of a new park at Wongawilli.
The proposed “Bankbook Park” would be the central hub of the Vista Park estate in the West Dapto Land Release Area. The estate is divided into a number of precincts that draw character from the agricultural and heritage elements of Wongawilli’s history.
The proposed park name is a tribute to the nearby Bankbook Hill, a miner’s settlement which was established for the working class of Wongawilli mine, opened in the 1920s. A local amateur historian has suggested that it was called Bankbook Hill due to all the miners making money at Wongawilli Colliery.
Council is exhibiting the name proposal in accordance with Council’s Naming of Community Facilities and Parks Policy.
Residents are invited to have their say on naming the new reserve ‘Bankbook Park’. If the proposal receives the unanimous support and endorsement of Council, an application to name the park will progress to the Geographical Names Board that makes the final decision on the proposal.
The easiest way to provide your feedback on the proposed naming of Bankbook Park, Wongawilli is to complete a feedback form available on Council’s website, Customer Service Centre or Dapto Library.
You can also provide feedback at Dapto Street Fair between 9.30am and 11.30am on Sunday 4 September. Feedback closes at 5pm on 26 September 2016.
